An insight into photojournalism.
The inaugural Photography Lovers' Film Night celebrates the best in photography and aims to bring the community together.
We're very excited to be screening the absorbing new documentary MCCURRY: THE PURSUIT IN COLOUR.
An intimate look at the contemporary photojournalist Steve McCurry, best known for his famed photograph 'Afghan Girl'. The one thing more poignant than McCurry’s pictures is his tumultuous 40-year career, which he’s spent travelling the globe essentially alone, capturing candid snapshots depicting the complexity of human life.
Tickets include a glass of bubbles, a copy of ISLAND magazine and an introduction to the film.
About the speaker
Joining ISLAND's pre-film discussion for Photography Lovers’ Film Night is renowned architectural and interiors photographer David Straight, who will be speaking about his experience assisting Steve McCurry.
David Straight is a photographer whose work focuses primarily on architecture and the built environment. While living in London and New York, where he interned at Magnum Photos, David’s street photography and habit of walking and exploring cities sharpened his appreciation for the importance of architecture and urban design on our everyday lives. His practice has evolved into a more focused exploration of the built environment and architecture, and he now works with many of New Zealand’s leading architects. His work is frequently published nationally and internationally.
