About the film

HOLY DAYS is a charming New Zealand/Canada co-production based on the novel by Joy Cowley, brought to life by writer-director Nat Boltt. Set against the backdrop of 1970s Aotearoa, the film follows young Brian (newcomer Elijah Tamati) on a heartwarming quest to retrieve his late mother from heaven before his father’s new girlfriend, Liz (Nathalie Boltt), takes her place. With only the clue that his mother is on a snowy mountain, Brian teams up with three elderly nuns, played by screen legends Judy Davis, Jacki Weaver and Miriam Margolyes. What begins as a local mission becomes an uplifting tale about courage, found whanau, and the gentle rebellions that shape who we become.
