Posthumous Memoirs impeccably re-constructs Brazil in the second half of the 19th century. It tells the story of Brás Cubas, an ordinary man who, after his death in 1869, returns from the grave to revisit his life in the guise of a sarcastic and good-humored ghost that relives, observes, interferes and analyzes his life with merciless self-criticism. He warns: "Frankness is the greatest virtue of a cadaver"!
Published in 1881, the novel Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas is considered to be a masterpiece of one of Brazil's leading writers, Machado de Assis. Filmed on location in Salvador, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Coimbra (Portugal).
