DOC NZ - PIANOMAN
|
|
In an age of celebrity mania, some genuine heroes try to slip by unnoticed. Director Carlaw looks at the life and career of New Zealand's pre-eminent classical pianist Michael Houstoun, a man who - beyond accepting the acclaim his performances attract - has been shy of close media attention. Houstoun is one of NZ's favourite sons. He fared well on the international competition circuit and yet he chose to forge a career in New Zealand. Incorporating archival footage from throughout Houstoun's career, this films allows audiences to take a peek at New Zealand's greatest and most reluctant music icon. Rating: D - Exempt Doco, 125 mins
